"Nothing new" isn't entirely true, as I am making crochet flowers at the moment; I'm aiming to make one-a-day for a tea cosy present... The flowers in the photograph all come from the book "Crochet Bouquet" by Suzann Thompson - from the easy section I might add. I have attempted the more advanced designs with no joy so far...
Apart from the flowers, I am continuing work on the black granny square blanket - 100 squares to date - and I have unravelled the border of the Spring blanket from last year with the intention of adding more squares and making it bigger.
This blanket is going to reside on our bed... the colours are perfect for the bedroom. Unfortunately it just isn't big enough to stretch over a super-king bed, so more squares are needed... many more...probably another hundred ... so this is where the "lots to do" bit comes in!
I found the mini donkey at a charity shop the other week and brought him home to live with the other donkeys.... you can just and so see him on the windowsill on the picture below...
Thank you for your tips on cleaning vintage linens ... oxy clean seems to be popular and not something I have ever tried before and I haven't found any for sale locally yet. There was also a good suggestion to rub the stain with half a lemon and let this dry in sunlight before washing ... this takes a bit more forward planning in this neck of the woods as sunlight is an infrequent visitor at the moment!

Snap! I bought the little donkey with the cart from charity shop last week, my friend said she remembers her Nan having a similar one on her windowsill.

Oh I am swooning over your bright and cheery crochet blanket you have on your bed. Loving the pillow cases too. Shamefully I haven't even made our bed today. How bad is that? So slovenly.

I love your blanket on the king size bed. I think the last row in white makes it look beautiful and fresh.
ReplyDeleteI love the flowers which are planned for the tea cosy. I have the same crochet book. It's really great, isn't it? I also stick to the easier patterns as I got in a mess with the more difficult ones!
I just bought a book of crochet flower patterns a few hours ago, fancy that! Every time I see your spring blanket I itch to make one, it's so cheerful!

I wasn't sure about the blanket colours a few posts ago but spread out on the bed it looks beautiful. Love your blog, it is in my favourites with attic 24 and crochet with raymond.

While I haven't tried it personally, I have read that you can make your own "oxy" cleaner by mixing 2 parts water with 1 part hydrogen peroxide & 1 part baking soda.
ReplyDeleteI have used "oxy" cleaners for years, and they are highly effective on all kinds of natural satins, but I often have to soak items for a long time if it is an older or very stubborn stain.
Hope that's helpful.
Your blanket is looks absolutely amazing so far! What a perfect bed cover - it looks sooooooo cosy.

ReplyDeleteThat blanket for the bed is going to be so lovely! :D Oh yes I managed to find the Crochet today magazine here in NZ, I looked everywhere and it was at a shop near me after all the searching. ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous summery blanket - You've inspired me x
ReplyDeletedishwasher powder is great for cleaning vintage linens (use a tub or sink to soak and then press excess water out and run through a regular machine wash cycle, on the gentlest setting you have)
