Being brave...

Once my parcel of new Herdywool yarn arrived, I just didn't know what I wanted to make with it... after some deliberation I started making hexagons. In the back of my mind, I have a vision of making a pouffe cover; the patchwork one I made this time last year has literally fallen apart at the seams and now lives in the loft. I caught my husband using it instead of a step ladder one day and then he had the audacity to question my sewing skills when gaping holes appeared in it!

Anyway, I had a brainwave to make a pouffe cover from felted crochet...

I spent a good hour or so searching for felted crochet on the web last night, but I have not come across anything matching the image in my head. I will see how things progress... Have any of you dear readers been brave enough to felt your crochet work?

Inbetween pouffe felting thoughts, I am working on the edge of my Nanna blanket. So far the edge is straight; I had developed a "can't do blanket edges" mentality, but thankfully that has passed. The fiesta colours in the edging are so cheerful and I'm really enjoying the process.

I will leave you with a link to this fabulous new blog Annie's Place. I have long been an admirer of Sharron's crochet on Flickr and it was a wonderful surprise to discover she has started blogging... her crochet rocks... check it out!

  2. I accidentally felted my baby's cardigan last week it can fit a doll now, I was upset but started to crochet again. There is a picture on my blog if you want to see. I think felted hexagons sound like a great idea and I would be very interested to see how they come out. Sarah x

  8. I'm really touched that you would mention me in your post today, thank you! My first steps into blogland have been tentative, so to receive a vote of confidence from someone so established is overwhelming x

You know I'm a fellow colour addict, so that Herdywool is definitely a real find. The Nanna blanket edging is fab, not long till it's all finished then?! x

  12. Hello, I regularly felt my crochet work. You can use any pattern you like. But you should felt one hexagon to see how the wool will react (best methods are: put to or three tennisballs in the washing machine, using tumbler balls or two or three towels). If you use the same yarn to finish your work as you work with, you shoud finish your work before felting, otherwise you should finish it with non felting material.

  14. I've felted crochet before. It seems to felt much more evenly than knitting. Sabina's advice is very sound.

  16. Your hexagons are bright and beautiful! I tried to felt a crocheting project before but it didn't work so well for me. It came out mostly fuzzy more than felted. But that could be because my washing machine is a front loader and I have heard they don't felt as well as top loading agitator type machines. Good luck!
